Funeral services will be 11 a.m. with Family Hour at 10 a.m. Friday, April 13th at Haley Funeral Directors in Southfield.

Following services in Southfield Ms. Wright will be flown to Chicago where a funeral service will be held Saturday, April 14th at Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, 3447 West Douglas Boulevard, Chicago, IL 60623 (773) 762-7345.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Lawns Cemetery, 3100 Shermer Road, Northbrook, IL 60062

MRS. RUBY LEE WALKER-WRIGHT

"JESUS IS MY FRIEND"

Mrs. Ruby Lee Walker-Wright was born on June 6, 1926 in Altheimer, Arkansas to Henry and Leonia Walker, Jr. Her father was a successful landowner and businessman who enjoyed various entrepreneurial pursuits and was a well-respected leader of the community of Gethsemane, Arkansas. Ruby was raised one of twelve children and through the guidance of her parents began her walk with Christ at an early age. Her faith and convictions would serve her well throughout her life. She could often be overheard uttering the refrain "Jesus Is My Friend".

On October 8, 1946 Ruby married Adell Wright, Sr. and would later become the devoted mother and guide for her own four sons: Adell, Jr.; Marvin Ray; Larry Donald, Sr. and Dawin Lyron. In the early '50s, the family would pack up and head north to Chicago, Illinois. On the "West Side", Adell and Ruby were part of a tight-knit family and community that would work together, play together and pray together. It was during that time, they became long standing members of the Mount Hebron M.B. Church. A strong-willed woman who believed in the fruits of hard work, Ruby was a diligent employee for more than 20 years of the Chicago Board of Education.

Whether you called her Ma'Dear, Grandma, Sis, Auntie, Jack or friend-her legacy is the way in which she touched the lives of many. In her own nurturing way, Ruby would open her home, her kitchen and her heart to more than a few. She was an extremely intelligent woman with a PhD. in "Life" who provided advice, home remedies and a lovingly cooked meal with great pride and strength. She could always be found at the heart of "The Communication Center" doling out sage wisdom or the latest and greatest family news.

In 1999, Ruby Lee left Chicago and made her home in Southfield, Michigan. For a lesser "seventy-something", this would have been an arduous task- but not for Ruby Lee. She embraced the change and embarked upon a life filled with tending her son's garden, enjoying the closer proximity to her sisters and doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always an avid sports fan, year round she could be found keeping up with all manner of sporting activities; although she never gave up her true love for her Chicago Bulls.

On Tuesday April 10, 2007, Ruby made her transition and went to join her husband, Adell, Sr. and her son, Marvin who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory, 3 sons: Adell, Jr.; Larry, Sr. and Dawin Lyron; 2 daughters-in-law: Paulette and Carolyn; 8 grandchildren: Dedra (Keith), Andrea (Neil), Denita (Jesse), Allison (Alliric); Tony (Shani)Larry, Jr., Jonathan and Dawin Adell; several great-grandchildren; 4 sisters: Beatrice, Odelia (Bill), Leanna and Etta; 1 brother: Alvin (Frankie); several brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
