Ronald William
Barry
Oct 18, 1936 — Sep 2, 2026
Southfield
Ronald William Barry, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 2nd after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Ron loved life and pursued his passions with energy and dedication. He was an incredibly talented illustrator for the auto industry, a career that combined his eye for detail with his love for cars. He spent his free time outdoors sailing, skiing, and enjoying nature. His dark sense of humor and unique way of seeing the world were endearing and brought laughter to those around him. For decades, Ron was heavily involved in Unitarian Universalist church life, finding deep meaning and fellowship within the UU community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, in 2018, with whom he shared a profound love and a beautiful life built together over many decades. Family was always the central priority for Ron and Norma. He shared a deep, lasting connection with his children and grandchildren. In his later years, he was blessed to find love and companionship again with his partner, Kathy Scherf. He is survived by his children, Gregg Barry and Jennifer McCandless, his son-in-law Alec McCandless, and his grandsons, Reid and Cal McCandless.A memorial service will be held on October 17 at 10:00 AM at the Northwest Unitarian Universalist Church (23925 Northwestern Hwy, Southfield, Michigan). Guests will have the opportunity to share memories if they choose. The artwork that Ron was most proud of will be on exhibit, and all friends are welcome to attend. A reception with light refreshments will follow at the church.
