The Obituary of Patricia Ann Ryder Williams

It is with heavy hearts that we observe the passing of Patricia Ann Ryder Williams, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on December 5, 2023, in Farmington Hills, MI. Tish, as she was known to most, was born on November 29, 1936, in Pontiac, MI, to Nellie RLena Morton and Alfred Ryder.
Tish is survived by her loving son, Malik, born on March 2, 1964, and her adoring, dedicated daughter, Lauren, born on June 7, 1967. On August 26, 1961, TIsh married her life partner, Roy Levy Williams, who preceded her in death on February 11, 2022.
Growing up in Pontiac, Tish shared special bonds with her sisters, Florence Arlene, Margaret Ruth, and Mary Catherine. Family was the cornerstone of Tish's life, and her unwavering love and support will be dearly missed.
Tish's commitment to education and continuous learning was evident in her academic accomplishments. She graduated from Eastern Junior High School in 1952 and Pontiac Senior High School in 1955. Tish pursued higher education at Highland Park Community College and Wayne State University, earning a BS in Education in 1959.
Throughout her professional journey, Tish made meaningful contributions to various organizations, leaving a lasting impact on those she served. From her early days at Lafayette Clinic to her work at Homes For Black Children, Tish exemplified a strong work ethic and a passion for helping others. Her dedication extended to her time working at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, and her long tenure at Thurgood Marshall Elementary.
An accomplished vocalist, Tish graced the stage with The Brazeal Dennard Chorale, sharing her love for music and community. Her volunteerism extended to The YES Foundation, The Obama 2008 Presidential Campaign, and membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where Tish actively contributed to community service initiatives.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to those who played significant roles in Tish's later life, including Carolyn B. Kent, Tanya Seaborn, and Mother Heaven. Your kindness and support during this challenging time are deeply appreciated.
As we bid farewell to Tish, let us cherish the memories of the joy she brought into our lives and honor the enduring legacy she leaves behind.
May Patricia Ann "Tish" Ryder Williams rest in eternal peace, her memory forever etched in our hearts.
