Martin John
Schabel
Aug 24, 1945 — Aug 12, 2021
Martin Schabel, 75, born on August 24,1945, made his peaceful transition home, surrounded by his loving family on August 12, 2021.
Martin was born in Highland Park, Michigan where he grew up and graduated from Highland Park High School. At a very young age he started out as an apprentice in the Tool and Die industry . His career path led him to become the Senior Cost and Design Analyst for ASC, American Sunroof Corporation. He spent 40+ years with ASC until his retirement in 2016.
He was a talented artist and loved to paint but his favorite things to create were pencil drawings. He loved boating, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family.
He had an early love for sports, mostly baseball, he loved to tell the story of how he skipped school one day to hang out on the roof of the Penobscot building and when his mother found out he got grounded and missed the tryouts for The Detroit Tigers. He loved all sports, card games, solving puzzles, playing the lottery but most of all horses and horse racing. His passion for these things lasted his entire life.
He married the love of his life, Karen, in 1965 and together they built a beautiful life with their three children; Kimberly Copeland (Mark), Martin Jr., Kathleen (Kerri).
He was blessed with three grandchildren; Leann Aldrich (Bryan), Matthew and Addison, along with two great grandsons; Parker and Layne.
He was compassionate, generous, kind and loving! He always said he was the lucky one to have us as his family, but quite the opposite, we were the lucky ones!!!
